🔎 BREAKING: FORENSICS INV. YOMI HAKAI CRACKS 40+ COLD CASES

40+ Cold Cases Solved — Some Open Since 1981

Forensics Investigator Yomi Hakai has accomplished something many believed impossible.

Forensics Investigator Yomi Hakai of the BCSO Detective Division has successfully closed a sprawling ring of cold cases — many open since 1981. The achievement represents one of the most significant investigative breakthroughs in the history of the Blaine County Sheriff's Office.

Through an intensive multi-month investigation, Investigator Hakai applied modern forensic techniques, DNA re-analysis, and painstaking cross-referencing of decades-old evidence to connect cases that had previously appeared unrelated. The result: 40+ case closures spanning multiple communities across Blaine County.

"These families waited over two decades for answers. Every single one of them deserved the truth. My job was to find it."

FOUR-TIME AWARD WINNERS

Best Place to Work™ — Blaine County  •  2021  •  2022  •  2025  •  2026

The BCSO is proud to have been recognized as a Best Place to Work™ four times. This reflects the commitment of Sheriff Hargrove and Undersheriff Deacon to building a workplace culture defined by respect, opportunity, and purpose.

⚠ THE 2024 INCIDENT — A MATTER OF RECORD

In 2024, the Best Place to Work™ award was controversially awarded to the San Andreas State Police — a decision that sent shockwaves through the Blaine County law enforcement community and is widely regarded as one of the most egregious miscarriages of institutional justice in the history of this county.

Sheriff Hargrove, upon learning of the result, authored what has since been described by colleagues as "the most strongly worded letter in the history of San Andreas law enforcement." The letter, addressed directly to the awards committee, laid out in exacting detail why the decision was not only incorrect, but an affront to every deputy, dispatcher, and civilian employee who had given their careers to the BCSO.

"That's my damn award!"

Sheriff Dusty Hargrove, in closing remarks of the aforementioned letter, 2024

The San Andreas State Police was subsequently dissolved shortly thereafter. While the official reasons cited were budgetary and organizational, no one in Blaine County has any doubt about the real cause.

The BCSO reclaimed its rightful place atop the rankings in 2025 and has retained the title in 2026. Justice, as Sheriff Hargrove has always maintained, finds its way.

"We don't just want people to work here. We want them to be proud to work here." — Sheriff Hargrove

⚔ HISTORY OF THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office was established in 1905 when Blaine County was formally incorporated as a county of the State of San Andreas. Today, the BCSO serves approximately 3,400 square miles with a population of roughly 28,000 residents across Sandy Shores, Paleto Bay, Grapeseed, and the unincorporated areas of Blaine County.

From one man with a badge on horseback to a modern full-service agency with over 75 sworn deputies, specialized tactical units, a forensics division, and a state-of-the-art CAD and records system — the BCSO has come a long way. But the mission remains the same: serve and protect every person in Blaine County.
